TOKYO, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, following gains on Wall Street amid hopes on a foreseeable deal to lift the U.S. debt ceiling.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 78.77 points, or 0.55 percent, from Friday at 14,483.51.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.50 points, or 0.54 percent, at 1,203. 67.
The Japanese financial markets were closed Monday due to a national holiday.
