BRUSSELS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Consumer confidence in both the euro area and the European Union (EU) rose in August this year, according to the figures released by the European Commission Friday.
The consumer confidence indicator improved markedly in August in the euro area from minus 17.4 points in July to minus 15.6 points, data of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) showed.
The DG ECFIN data also showed that the consumer confidence indictor rose from minus 14.8 points in July to minus 12.8 points in August.
The estimation procedure combines historical data with information from those member states for which data are available in the reference month. Experience has shown this procedure to be statistically reliable, DG ECFIN said.
