Thai entrepreneurs to promote bilateral trade with Myanmar

YANGON, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Thai businessmen will boost bilateral trade relations with Myanmar in agricultural sector, official media reported Wednesday.

Thai businessmen are keen to make a feasibility study on agricultural prospect in Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar, and its environs as well as distributing farm equipment in the country, said the New Light of Myanmar.

The discussions were made at a meeting held between Thai business delegation, led by Assistant Director-General Matyawongse Amatyakul, representing 26 companies and Mandalay Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry at Mandalay Hill Resort over the past two weeks.

At the meeting, Thai entrepreneurs gave an account of their plan to distribute farm equipment, auto spare parts, construction materials, electrical appliances and various kinds of machines to Myanmar businessmen.

Thai business delegation is expected to visit Mandalay in May and October, the report added.

According to official statistics, bilateral trade between Myanmar and Thailand stood 4.576 billion U.S. dollars in 2012.

Of the total amount, Myanmar's export to Thailand amounted to 3. 861 billion dollars while its import from Thailand represented 715. 61 million dollars.
