TOKYO, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei opened sharply higher Tuesday after a plunge in the previous day, as jitters over Cyprus ' bailout plan eased.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 228.53 points, or 1.87 percent, from Monday to 12,449.16.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 15.57 points, or 1.51 percent, to 1, 043.91.
