TOKYO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei plunged on Monday due to uncertainty in Cyprus as a bailout plan for the country could again trigger a euro zone debt crisis.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 340.32 points, or 2.71 percent, from Friday to 12,220.63.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 23.31 points, or 2.22 percent, at 1, 028.34.

All 33 sectors declined led by sea transport, insurance and steel shares.

The turnover was about 2,167.9 billion yen (22.86 billion U.S. dollars).
