PARIS, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Industrial output in France posted a 1.2-percent decline in January from a month earlier due to a weak manufacturing sector, the government said Monday.
Data released by the National Statistics Institute (INSEE) showed that manufacturing production dropped 1.4 percent following a sharp decline of 6.9 percent and 4 percent respectively in car manufacturing industry and construction.
Output of food processing activities also reported a negative trend with a 3.8-percent drop registered over the period, according to the report.
Mining and energy businesses inched down by 0.2 percent while production of electrical and electronic businesses rose by 2.7 percent compared to December 2012.
Over the last three months, France's industrial production was down by 1.5 with manufacturing output falling 2.1 percent, INSEE figures showed.
