American Airlines submits request to extend deadline for reorganization plan

HOUSTON, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- AMR, the parent of U.S. carrier American Airlines, has asked a bankruptcy judge for another extension to file its plan to exit bankruptcy, local media reported Tuesday.

In paperwork filed with the bankruptcy judge in New York last week, AMR and its unsecured creditors committee asked the court if it could have until April 15 to file its reorganization plan, according to news website NewsOn6.com.

The company currently has until March 11 to file its re- organization plan, but it had asked the court last month if it could extend that date to April 1.

As part of its exit plan, American Airlines may merge with US Airways. If that deal goes through, it will create the largest airline in the world.
