TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei ended 0.72 percent higher at a 32-month high Tuesday, after comments by Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa saying the central bank would continue with massive monetary easing.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 77.51 points from Friday to 10,879.08. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.53 points, or 0.84 percent, to 906.22.
Gainers included the sea transport, mining and pharmaceutical sectors while decliners included tire makers, glass and oil companies.
The turnover was about 1,950.1 billion yen (about 21.90 billion U.S. dollars).
