RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's state-controlled oil and gas giant Petrobras Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with anther two companies to better explore oil resources in the Amazon Rainforest.
Petrobras said the memorandum with the HRT and the TNK-Brasil aimed to conduct joint research of the Jurua Field in the Solimoes Basin of the Amazonas state.
Petrobras CEO Maria das Gracas Foster said the company had a long presence in Amazonas state, citing the Urucu-Coari-Manaus pipeline.
"The partnership with the HRT and the TNK-Brasil has clear goals, which will bring a lot of benefits to Amazonas," the CEO said.
But Petrobras said the companies had no obligation to sign any
commercial or operational agreements after the studies foreseen in the memorandum were concluded.
