RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff promised on Monday to develop the country's offshore energy industry.
On a construction site of two offshore oil rigs in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, she said millions of Brazilian reais had been invested to help the country revive its offshore energy industry with high quality.
One of the two rigs is expected to start operation in a year, and will produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
According to the official Agencia Brasil news agency, Brazil's offshore energy industry is expanding quickly and currently employs 60,000 workers.
