TOKYO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei opened sharply lower Friday following disappointment of the European Central Bank's steps to cope with the eurozone debt crisis.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 107.02 points, or 1.24 percent, from Thursday to 8, 546.16.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 10.51 points, or 1.43 percent, to 722.47.
