Xi proposes closer China-Turkey business cooperation

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- President Xi Jinping called for closer cooperation between China and Turkey as he and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a China-Turkey business forum Thursday in Beijing.

Addressing the forum, Xi said China and Turkey made great contributions to exchanges and prosperity of human civilization as they stood at either end of the ancient Silk Road.

Xi noted that both countries have set bold goals for the upcoming centenaries, and suggested they should cooperate to achieve them.

China is aiming to have built a "moderately prosperous" society by the time the Communist Party of China celebrates its centenary in 2021, and to have turned itself into a "modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious" when the People's Republic of China marks its centenary in 2049.

The year 2023 will meanwhile mark 100 years since the Republic of Turkey was established.

Xi proposed the two sides "make full use of the vice premier-level inter-governmental cooperation committee to boost cooperation politically, economically, culturally and on security."

He highlighted high-speed railways, new energy, aviation, finance and investment as particular areas of opportunity.

The Chinese president urged the Turkish side to create a more favorable environment for Chinese investors.

"Entrepreneurs are major players for win-win economic cooperation," Xi said, encouraging businessmen from both sides to work hard to turn the potential for cooperation into concrete results.

Erdogan, on a two-day state visit on Wednesday and Thursday, said improving economic ties have been an important driving force for the partnership between the nations.

He reiterated Turkey's support for the China-proposed Belt and Road network of regional trade and infrastructure.

The Turkish government welcomes Chinese investment and will improve business conditions for Chinese companies, said the visiting president.

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ongoing visit to Beijing shows again that the two countries are willing to and capable of keeping their friendship and strategic ties on the right track.

In separate talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang during his two-day state visit, Erdogan agreed to cooperate with China on anti-terrorism, law enforcement, security, and other areas, without evading sensitive issues.

习近平在致辞中表示，中土两国位于亚欧大陆东西两端，是古代丝绸之路的起点和终点，为促进人类文明交流繁荣作出了重要贡献。今天，中国人民正在实现“两个一百年”奋斗目标，土耳其也提出了建国百年计划。实现各自发展，既需要通过自身努力，也离不开国际合作。我同埃尔多安总统一致同意，要在相互尊重、合作共赢的基础上推动中土战略合作关系取得更大发展，更好造福两国和两国人民。

习近平指出，中土两国要通过“一个指导机制、两个合作重点、三个新兴领域”推动双边关系不断向前迈进。

首先，发挥两国副总理级政府间合作委员会机制作用，协调两国政治、经贸、安全、人文等各领域合作。

第二，重点打造高铁和新能源两个合作重点。中国拥有一批综合实力强、技术水平高的铁路建设企业，中方愿积极参与土耳其有关铁路项目建设。中国在新能源领域拥有优势，双方可以将中国的优势产能同土耳其的区位优势紧密结合起来，推动中方风电、光伏企业更多在土耳其落户，为深化两国合作注入新能量。

第三，进一步推进航天、金融和投资三个新兴合作领域。中国政府将继续引导和鼓励中国企业赴土投资兴业，发挥自身优势，扩大同土方各领域合作。希望土方能为中国企业创造更好投资合作环境。

习近平强调，两国企业家是中土互利双赢经贸合作的参与者、推动者。把中土务实合作潜力转化为实实在在的合作成果需要两国企业家付出艰辛努力。我们要站在中土战略合作的高度，坚持相互尊重、合作共赢的原则，持之以恒深耕细作，收获中土关系不断发展的丰硕成果。

埃尔多安在致辞中表示，我此次访华，同习近平主席就推进两国各领域合作达成许多重要共识。近年来，土中经贸关系发展迅速，经贸合作已成为双方战略合作关系的重要推动力量。土耳其支持中方倡议的“一带一路”设想和丝路基金，愿积极参与相关合作。土耳其政府欢迎中国企业加大对土投资，并愿为此营造有利环境。
