Sony decides to release "The Interview" on Christmas at some theaters

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Sony Pictures Entertainment, which has captured much media attention recently for being the object of a destructive hack attack, announced Tuesday it will have a limited theatrical release for the comedy film "The Interview" beginning from Christmas Day.

"We have never given up on releasing 'The Interview' and we're excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day," Sony Entertainment Chairman/CEO Michael Lynton said.

"At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience."

Starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, "The Interview" tells the story of an assassination attempt on DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.

Six days ago, Sony said it decided to cancel the film's release due to threats posted online by a group of hackers calling itself Guardians of Peace and claiming responsibility for a massive cyberattack on its studio in the Culver City, Los Angeles.
