GM faulty ignition switch death hits 38
CHICAGO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- General Motors Co. approved two more death claims because of defective ignition switches in GM cars, bringing the total death claims approved to 38, the Detroit News reported Monday.
GM also approved seven additional injury claims, bringing the total to 51. GM compensation fund received 47 new claims last week, adding the total to 2,262.
The Dearborn-based automaker established a victim fund this year to provide compensation to those hurt or killed in GM cars with defective ignition switches, which can inadvertently turn the engine off and disable power steering and air bags.
The fund will pay at least one million dollars for each death claim or more if they had dependants. The U.S. automaker has set aside 400 million dollars to cover the compensation costs, but has prepared that the amount could rise as high as 600 million dollars.
The fund used to set the deadline for accepting applications at Dec. 31, 2014, but now has extended the deadline by 30 days until Jan. 31. For delayed ignition switch recall, GM paid record 35- million-dollar fine to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in May 2014, and agreed on up to three years of monitoring. The delayed recall has prompted investigations from the Justice Department, Congress, 48 state attorneys general, the Securities and Exchange Commission and U.S. and Canadian regulators.

通用汽车承认点火开关缺陷致死人数上升
新华网芝加哥１２月８日电（记者徐静）通用汽车点火开关缺陷致死人事件近期继续发酵。通用汽车公司日前承认，因汽车点火开关缺陷致死人数再添２人，总数达３８人。
据《底特律新闻》８日报道，除承认点火开关缺陷致死人外，通用汽车公司还承认，因此缺陷受伤的人数增加７人，总数达５１人。通用汽车公司上周收到４７份索赔申请，至今收到索赔申请总数为２２６２份。
通用汽车公司一些车型点火开关存在缺陷，会无意导致汽车发动机熄火，动力转向和安全气囊功能失灵。据外媒报道，点火开关缺陷事件延续长达十年之久，涉及车型包括雪佛兰Ｃｏｂａｌｔ、土星Ｉｏｎ等。
通用汽车公司负责人今年年初曾表示道歉，并承诺展开全面调查，采取补救措施。为此，公司今年年中拨款４亿美元，设立了受害人赔偿基金。不过，分析人士预计赔偿额可能高达６亿美元。
通用汽车公司起初将接受索赔申请的最后截止日期定为２０１４年１２月３１日，之后又将截止日期延长一个月，至２０１５年１月３１日。
由于延迟召回点火开关缺陷汽车，通用汽车公司今年５月向美国国家公路交通安全管理局交纳了创纪录的３５００万美元罚款，并同意接受监控管理局为时三年的监控。同时，通用汽车公司为此接受了美国司法部、国会、４８个州的检察长和美国证券交易委员会的调查。
