ALGIERS, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Niger agreed on Monday to cooperate in energy projects, including oil drilling and rural electrification.

The decision was made in a meeting held between Algerian Energy Minister Youcef Yousfi and his Nigerien counterpart Foumakoye Gado.

Gado told reporters that they talked over ways to boost bilateral cooperation in both oil and electricity.

He also noted that his country is about to seal a contract with Sipex, the international subsidiary of Algerian energy giant Sonatrach, to enable it to continue its drilling operations that have been going on for six months.

The country has recently begun its initial oil production with a production of 20,000 barrels per day. Part of the oil production is exported to Mali and Burkina Faso.
