HAVANA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Cuban doctor fighting the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone has been infected with the disease, but in stable condition, the Cuban Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
Doctor Felix Baez Sarria, 43, a specialist sent to Sierra Leone to fight Ebola, displayed fever symptoms on Sunday. He tested positive for Ebola one day later and is being treated by a team of British professionals, said the ministry.
The World Health Organization has proposed Sarria be transferred to Geneva for treatment.
In early October, Cuba sent its first brigade of 165 doctors and male nurses to combat Ebola in Sierra Leone. Later the island dispatched other 53 to Liberia and 38 to Guinea.
