OSLO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who was on a three-day visit to Norway, discussed on Wednesday the Ebola situation in West African countries with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
At a joint press conference, Mahama said his government takes the threat seriously although Ghana is not affected by the Ebola endemic.
Ghana, which has road and trade links with the Ebola-stricken countries, has started to scan passengers in and out of the country and medical teams around the country are prepared to deal with the situation should an Ebola infection break, he said.
Mahama called for increased international efforts in financial support, development of vaccines and voluntary health care for Ebola patients.
Erna Solberg said that it is important to increase investment in health care to be better prepared for future similar crises.
In their talks, the two leaders also reviewed trade ties between the two countries and cooperation potential beyond the oil and gas sector.
Mahama was scheduled to visit the Norwegian oil capital city of Stavanger on Friday, accompanied by Norwegian Oil and Energy Minister Tord Lien.
