KAMPALA, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan police and military on Sunday beefed up security in the country ahead of the World Cup final match to avoid the repeat of the 2010 terror attacks which left 78 people dead and dozens injured.
Fred Enanga, Uganda's police spokesperson told Xinhua by telephone that combined security task forces of the military, police, counterterrorism and bomb squad have been deployed in the capital Kampala and other major upcountry towns to avoid the repeat of the 2010 World Cup final, when Somali militants Al- Shabaab carried out twin bombings attacks in the capital, killing 78 football fans.
The East African country on Friday marked the fourth anniversary of the July 11, 2010 terror attacks in Kampala.
"We have continued to receive terror threats which are real. The terrorists might want to take advantage of the World Cup final to strike us again," said Enanga.
"We have deployed foot and motorize troops to prevent any terror attacks during the final match. We urge the public to be on high alert and vigilant. They should report any suspicious persons and objects to security forces immediately," he said.
The spokesperson said security has been enhanced in all entertainment places planning to screen the live World Cup match final between Germany and Argentina to prevent any possible terror attacks.
"We have issued tight and stringent security guidelines for the owners of the entertainment places to follow to prevent terrorist from carrying out any havoc," said Enanga.
"We shall be doing on-spot checks and assessments to ensure all the places planning to screen the match comply with the set security guidelines. Those who don't meet the standards will not be allowed to show the match," he said.
Heavily armed and non-uniform security forces have been deployed at the country's national Stadium, Namboole where the Germany versus Argentina will be screen live on giant screens.
Some 20,000-25,000 football fans and music lovers are expected to throng to the 40,000 seater capacity stadium. There will be various music performances from the country's artists before the screening of the live match.
In the different entertainment places, local security personnel are manning the entrances with metal detectors and carrying out thorough checks.
