KHARTOUM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese army have killed 110 rebels of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector in Al-Atmoor area in South Kordofan State, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said on Monday.

"The SAF on Monday repulsed an attack by the rebels of the SPLM/ northern sector against Al-Atmoor area, South Kordofan State, which was recently liberated by the army. The SAF killed 110 rebels and injured many others," a SAF spokesman said in a statement on Monday.

The battle continued for three hours, as the rebels were trying to enter the area which represents a base for them, the spokesman said, noting that four army soldiers were also killed and some others injured.

Earlier on Friday the Sudanese army announced to have recaptured Al-Atmoor area, the capital of South Kordofan State, from the rebels.

The SPLM/northern sector has been fighting the Sudanese army in Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas since 2011.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir vowed earlier to end all armed clashes and conflicts in all parts of Sudan by the end of 2014.

In November last year Sudan's Defense Ministry declared that the military would embark on campaigns to end all armed rebellion in Sudan's Darfur region, the Blue Nile area and South Kordofan State on the borders with South Sudan.
