ABUJA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Casualties were feared Wednesday morning in Nigeria's central state of Plateau, where recent communal clashes have claimed many lives.
Unknown gunmen attacked Rim, a community in the Riyom local government area of the state, shooting indiscriminately and thereby crippling business and social activities in the area, according to police spokesperson Felicia Anselm who confirmed the attack to Xinhua.
A detachment of police officers had been deployed to the restive community, said the anti-crime agent.
Residents said the gunmen struck early Wednesday and the shootings were yet to die down as of the time of filing this report.
Plateau State witnessed a countless number of violent ethnic or communal clashes in the past. casualties in the latest attack in the Rim community are yet to be ascertained by security agents.
