TRIPOLI, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- An officer of Libyan Interior Ministry was killed on Friday by unknown assailants in the Libyan eastern city of Benghazi, security and medical sources told Xinhua.
A security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that " Unidentified assailants driving Hyundai car shot Mohamed Osama Akkoush Magbar, an engineer working at the civil registry department of the interior ministry in Benghazi."
Magbari's body, hit by four bullets, was sent to Jalaa Hospital in Benghazi, the hospital's spokesperson Fadia Al Barghati said.
Two years after the 2011 uprising, Libyan authorities are still struggling to rein in the tens of armed militia groups roaming the country. Murders and kidnappings of security officers as well as political activists are registered on daily basis, leaving a number of people dead.
