BAMAKO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Ibrahim Boubarca Keita, or IBK, won Mali's presidential election as his rival Soumaila Cisse on Monday conceded defeat and congratulated IBK on his victory not yet official.
During the meeting at his residence with Cisse, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, favorite since the first round on July 28 in this duel with his former partner of the Alliance for Democracy in Mali (Adema), was surrounded by a majority of the losing candidates of the first round, a source who was present at the meeting told Xinhua.
According to this source, Soumaila Cisse said he was prepared to assist IBK in his mission as the new President.
However, official preliminary results of Sunday's vote are not yet announced. Earlier at noon, Soumaila Cisse's campaign team made a statement to the press declaring that irregularities during the voting operations have "seriously corrupted the credibility" of the results.
