CAIRO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Vice President for foreign affairs Mohamed ElBaradei met on Monday with European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to discuss ways of ending the current political crisis in the country, said a presidential statement.

During the meeting, Baradei said that any solutions must be reached within the framework of respecting the rule of law and state institutions without threatening the country's security.

Baradei also emphasized the importance of "all" political forces' participation in the roadmap announced on July 3.

On Monday, Ashton also met with Egypt's Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi to discuss the latest developments in Egypt.

Fahmi stressed the importance of a "national reconciliation" among all political forces, while Ashton underlined the necessity of a comprehensive transitional process comprising all political forces, including the Muslim Brotherhood (MB).

Ashton arrived in Egypt's capital of Cairo late Sunday, marking her second visit to Egypt in less than two weeks after the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated president Mohamed Morsi on July 3.

Her visit comes one day after bloody confrontations over the past two days left at least 80 people killed and about 800 others injured in rival rallies, mostly in Cairo and Alexandria.

According to Egyptian presidential political adviser Mostafa Hegazi, Ashton's visit is not meant to interfere in Egypt's internal affairs, noting that the government appreciates the EU's efforts to ease the escalating tension in Egypt.

The EU official is scheduled to hold meetings with Egypt's interim President Adli Mansour, Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah al- Sisi, as well as representatives for different political forces, including the MB group.
