LAGOS, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A residential building has collapsed in the Nigeria city of Lagos, with dozens of people believed to be trapped under the rubble, rescue agency said early Thursday.
Spokesperson for Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)Ibrahim Farinloye, said the three-story building, reportedly housing residential apartments, collapsed at around 2:00 a.m. (1:00 a.m. GMT) local time at Ebute Meta downtown area of Lagos.
He told Xinhua that dozens of people may be trapped under the debris. It remains unclear what caused the collapse.
Rescue crews have responded to the incident. Dozens of firefighters and emergency personnel are at the scene searching for victims.
