BAMAKO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The MISMA mission commander, Nigerien general Yaya Seyni Garba, died of illness Saturday morning in the Malian capital Bamako.
"The general worked till 10:00 p.m. on Friday night. Nobody knew what kind of illness. This morning (Saturday), he was found lifeless," a source of MISMA said.
Garba was named to the post in December 2012 by the committee of army chiefs of the West African bloc ECOWAS, the backbone of MISMA, which is an international force deployed in Mali to help restore territorial integrity from rebels in its desert north.
