CAIRO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan embassy in Egyptian capital Cairo announced Saturday the suspension of all its activities, as a result of the ongoing sit-in by a number of Egyptian Copts outside the embassy in protest against the death of a Copt in Libya.

"The embassy indefinitely suspends all its activities, including consulate and the citizen service work," the embassy said in a statement.

The decision came a few days after tens of Egyptians, mostly Copts, gathered to demonstrate outside the Libyan embassy in Cairo after the death of an Egyptian Copt who was allegedly spreading Christianity in Libya.

The protesters brought down and set fire to the Libyan flag at the embassy, and also damaged the embassy front, demanding the return of all Christian detainees accused of evangelism in Libya, retaliation for the killed Copt, compensation for his family and an official apology from the Libyan government.
