TUNIS, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Tunisian court has freed a man suspected of attacking the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, due to insufficient evidence, official TAP press agency reported Tuesday, quoting an "authorized judicial source."
The suspect, Ali Harzi, was freed at the request of his lawyer for lacking of evidence, TAP said.
Harzi, who was arrested in October last year as he attempted to enter Turkey with forged documents, was later extradited to Tunisia where he was detained upon arrival on the charge of belonging to a terrorist network.
Following his arrest, Tunisian Interior Minister, Ali Laarayedh, said that Harzi was a "strong suspect" in the Benghazi attack, in which the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other staffers were killed.
