HOHHOT, China, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- A teenage winter camp featuring international sporting events such as ice hockey and skating competitions, kicked off on Wednesday at Yakeshi, Hulunbuir, northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
About 200 young athletes and sports fans took part in the skiing, winter swimming and snow-field soccer in the winter camp on Wednesday.
The events will be warm-ups for the region to host China's 14th National Winter Games in 2020 and select talents for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, said Wu Gang, deputy director of Inner Mongolia Sports Bureau.
The camp will last until March next year and may attract nearly one million participants, Wu said.
Inner Mongolia has taken measures to attract winter sports participants. Last year, the local sports bureau invested one million yuan (about 0.15 million US dollars) in skiing and skating facilities.
