TOKYO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Wednesday morning as the yen's softness attracted buying, while selling pressure was high owing to some U.S. shares retreating overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 14.77 points, or 0.06 percent, from Tuesday to 22,853.23.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.29 points, or 0.18 percent, at 1,818.47.

Construction and real estate issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.

Bank and insurance-linked issues, meanwhile, led those that gained.
