RAMALLAH, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad Malki said on Tuesday that the U.S. has been isolated due to its violations of the principles of international law.

"The Security Council states' unified vote isolated the U.S. due to its violation of the principles of international law," he said in an e-mailed press statement.

Malki urged the U.S. to "retreat from its illegal decision and return to consistency with the UN charter, international law and will."

He also slammed the U.S. for "standing on the wrong side of history," after President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and ordered to move the U.S. embassy to the city.

In a separate statement to press, Malki condemned the Israeli excavations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings.

The statement also urged the international community to protect the holy city, fearing that Israel would "escalate the settlement construction and the Judaization process."

Palestinians' political aspirations came after the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory in 1967. They demand to establish an independent state along the border of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
