SUVA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai survived Tuesday a motion of non-confidence lodged against him by the country's opposition parties.
According to Radio New Zealand late Tuesday, Salwai defeated a parliamentary vote of non-confidence by getting 37 votes to 13, a two-thirds majority.
Last week, the country's opposition tabled the motion of non-confidence and listed six reasons, including concerns over corruption, ministerial "incompetence," decentralization and tax, among others.
As the leader of the Reunification of Movements for Change (RMC), which is part of the Unity for Change bloc, Salwai was elected the island state's prime minister in February 2016.
Currently, his coalition government includes the three biggest single parties in the parliament, namely the RMC, the Vanua'aku Pati led by Joe Natuman and the Graon mo Jastis Pati led by Ralph Regenvanu.
Ahead of Tuesday afternoon's vote, Salwai reshuffled his cabinet by appointing three ministers from the parliament's second largest party, the Graon mo Jastis Pati.
