XINING, China, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The 8th Qinghai International Winter Yellow River Crossing Challenge Elite will be held from January 5, 2018 to January 7 in Guide County, a city in northwest China's Qinghai province.

"The registration of this competition is still under way, and we welcome all of the swimming enthusiasts across the world. For now, we believe that about 100 swimmers from more than 10 countries and regions including the United States, Denmark, Iceland and China will take part in this winter challenge," said the organizer on Saturday.

As an annually event, Yellow River Crossing Challenge is one of the four international races held in Qinghai, with both summer and winter editions. With an average altitude of 2,200 meters, Guide is characterized by high altitude, thin oxygen and low temperature, and featured with suitable conditions of the international winter swimming competition.

"After having held the swimming competition for seven years, Guide is much more experienced in operating this event, and this event has been upgraded to an international level," said Cairangtai, the deputy director general of Qinghai Sports Bureau. He added that the 8th Winter Yellow River Crossing Challenge will also be a prelude of the 2018 sports events for Qinghai.
