NINGBO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Cambridge University signed a deal Thursday with a Chinese city to build its first technological innovation and cooperation platform on the Chinese mainland.

The British-Sino Advanced-Tech Institute will be set up in the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo, according to the agreement.

Through the platform, the university will cooperate with companies, universities and research centers in Ningbo by using its strategic technological innovation resources.

The platform will not only promote the application of technological innovation of Cambridge University in China, but boost Ningbo's development as a model city under the "Made in China 2025" strategy, said Mao Hongfang, director of the management committee of the Ningbo Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The "Made in China 2025" strategy, a roadmap released in 2015, aims to upgrade the country's manufacturing sector.
