Two dead, three injured in stabbings in Dutch city Maastricht

THE HAGUE, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Two persons were killed and three others injured in two stabbing incidents on Thursday in Maastricht in the southern Dutch province of Limburg, police said early Friday.

So far the police arrested one suspect. "Investigation showed that there is no reason to believe the attacks had a terrorist motive," the police said in a statement.

One stabbing incident took place at around 9 p.m. local time at the Botsaart street in the Malpertuis district, during which one man died.

The second stabbing occurred 10 minutes later a few hundred meters further at the Joseph Postmes street in the Caberg district, during which one woman died and two others got injured. The third injured was found at a mosque. All three injured were taken to the hospital.

The police are still investigating the incidents and the identity of the victims is still unknown. Local news platform 1Limburg claimed the victims were members of a family of Syrian origin.
