FDI in Romania increases over 17 pct in first 10 months of 2017

BUCHAREST, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Romania increased 17.7 percent on year to 4.10 billion euros (4.84 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months of 2017, the central bank announced on Thursday in a release.

Equity investments, including reinvested profits, totaled 3.44 billion euros at the end of October, while intra-group loans generated net outflows worth 659 million euros, according to the release.

By comparison, FDI was 3.48 billion euros from January through October of 2016.

In the whole year of 2016, FDI was close to 4.1 billion euros, an increase of 18 percent year-on-year, the biggest amount of the past eight years.

In 2008, the start of the global financial crisis, the eastern European country attracted a record amount of FDI worth 9.5 billion euros. (1 euro = 1.18 U.S. dollars)
