BRUSSELS, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- NATO said Tuesday it was extending the mandate of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for two more years, until Sept. 30, 2020, a statement from the organization read.
Stoltenberg, the former prime minister of Norway, was appointed as NATO chief in 2014.
The extension of Stoltenberg's term was agreed by all allies, according to the North Atlantic Council, the principal political decision-making body of NATO.
The statement said, "Allies congratulate the Secretary General and have full confidence in his ability to continue his dedicated work to advance NATO's adaptation to the security challenges of the 21st century."
