KIEV, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine and Belarus have developed an action plan to deepen their cooperation on food safety, the Ukrainian government press service said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the cooperation roadmap was developed during a meeting in Kiev between the representatives of Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the food safety departments of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The document envisages that Ukraine and Belarus will strengthen their cooperation in the fields of veterinary medicine and food safety practices.

Besides, the two countries will launch an active dialogue on each other's veterinary and sanitary norms to facilitate trade.

In the first half of 2017, the overall trade turnover between Ukraine and Belarus increased by 21.4 percent to 2.073 billion U.S. dollars.

Belarus ranked Ukraine's sixth-largest trading partner after Russia, Germany, China, Poland and the United States.
