YANGON, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Global Fund (GF) will grant 321.44 million U.S. dollars of aid to help Myanmar fight three diseases -- tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS and malaria, the Myanmar News Agency reported Thursday.
Of the total grant, 94.04 million U.S. dollars will be used for TB eradication, while 129.96 million dollars be for prevention of HIV/AIDS and 97.44 million dollars for malaria treatment.
The grant was committed by a delegation of the Global Fund, led by Urban Weber, at a meeting with Myanmar Minister of Health and Sports Myint Htwe Wednesday.
The meeting also touched upon matters relating to draft legislation for using drugs and intoxication and assessment of healthcare projects.
In 2016, Myanmar registered 11,000 new HIV infections in the country, while as of the end of June this year, about 135,000 people living with HIV were being provided Lifelong Antiretroviral Therapy (Lifelong ART) services.
Meanwhile, Myanmar is striving to become a malaria-free country by 2030 and a campaign for the target is underway under the sponsorship of Asia-Pacific Malaria Elimination Network.
