AMMAN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan Wednesday warned of serious consequences of U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to relocate U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The King made the remarks when receiving a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

During the phone call, King Abdullah warned of the serious consequences of such a decision on the stability and security of the Middle East, adding that such a measure will undermine the peace process.

The King also stressed that the issue of Jerusalem needs to be settled as part of a comprehensive solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital that live side by side with Israel.

The Jordanian leader underlined the need for supporting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority to enable them to establish a Palestinian state based on the two state solution, expressing appreciation for France's support to a lasting and just peace in the region.

Jordan is exerting intensified efforts to highlight the dangers of such a step if announced by the U.S. administration.

An emergency meeting will be held at the Lower House Wednesday to look into the developments.
