The city of Haikou is becoming increasingly popular for overseas tourists seeking traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) service.

This is especially true for those from Russia, thanks in part to the direct flight that links Haikou and Moscow opened on July 11, 2017.

To lure more tourists, Haikou, captial of South China's Hainan province, specifically launched tourism products that last 7 to 21 days in order to fulfill tourists’ needs for TCM service and treatment, said an official from Haikou Tourism Development Commission.

Acupuncture, cupping, tuina massage, and herbal medicine are inevitably the most marvelled and best-known in TCM hospitals in Haikou.

Under the “One Belt One Road”initiative, TCM tourism is gaining new momentum in Haikou, once a key stop along the ancient Maritime Silk Road and now a burgeoning international tourism destination.

Next, Haikou intends to further promote TCM tourism, and innovate related tourism products under the mechanism of “Tourism + TCM”, according to local authorities.

It also set the goal to build Haikou as an International TCM health care center for countries under the Belt and Road Initiative, by introducing high-end TCM resources from other places such as Shanghai, they added.
