MANILA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A 4.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the central Philippines on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 14 kilometers southwest of Salcedo, a town in Eastern Samar province of the central Philippines around 10:48 a.m. local time (0248 GMT) with a depth of 5 kilometers.
The Phivolcs said it has not received any reported damage as a result of the quake.
The Philippines sits in the region called the Pacific Ring of Fire where continental plates collide, causing frequent earthquakes and volcanic activities.
In February, more than 100 people either died or were injured when a 6.7-magnitude temblor rocked the southern Philippine city of Surigao.
