CAIRO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egypt is concerned over the latest developments in Yemen after the killing of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh by the Houthi rebels, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Monday.
The latest developments come as a result of the toppling of the legitimate government in Yemen as well as the foreign intervention in its internal affairs, the spokesman said.
He reiterated Egypt's stance that calls for committing to political solution to the Yemeni crisis including the national dialogue and a Gulf initiative.
Saleh, his relatives and his senior aides were killed three days after the clashes first erupted on Saturday between his loyalists and Houthis in the capital Sanaa.
Saleh's party said in a statement that the war against Iranian-aligned Houthi movement will continue until the recapture of the capital Sanaa.
Observers said the death of Saleh could escalate a violent sectarian proxy war between pro-Sunni Saudi Arabia and pro-Shiite Iran.
