KAMPALA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) - The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) postponed the 2017 Women's Championship to next year.
Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General said on Monday that Rwanda, who were meant to host the event later this month, have now opted to have the event next year.
"The Rwanda FA will communicate to us which period the event will take place," Musonye said.
Last year Uganda hosted the Cecafa Women's Championship where Tanzania defeated Kenya in the final played at the Njeru Stadium, Jinja.
"It is good that most of our member nations have now started women's leagues and playing in the regional tournament will make the women players get more exposure," he added.
Cecafa have 12 members; Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi.
