Ethiopian FM urges UK to support South Sudan's revitalization

ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister, Workneh Gebeyehu, has called on the United Kingdom to support South Sudan's Revitalization Process, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated on Friday.

Gebeyehu made the call during his meeting with his UK counterpart Boris Johnson, UK's Foreign Secretary, on the sidelines of the African Union (AU)-EU summit, which was held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, this week.

According to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gebeyehu, while discussing with Johnson, underscored that "we would like UK to support the South Sudan Revitalization Process and assist rally the International community behind the cause."

The two sides also held further fruitful discussions on various issues, such as the progress of South Sudan peace process, bilateral and multilateral cooperation among the two countries, it was noted.

Gebeyehu, earlier on the sidelines of the AU-EU summit in Abidjan, had also joined the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD's) Council of Ministers to conduct a consultative meeting that reviewed South Sudan's peace process.

"Gebeyehu, noting IGAD Council of Ministers' unflinching position and unwavering commitment towards ensuring peace and stability in South Sudan, underscored the need to speak with one voice and urged an increased support from the international community," the ministry indicated.

Gebeyehu also noted that the Revitalization Process, with the help of undivided attention of the leaders and ministers of IGAD member states, has shown an encouraging progress.

Boris Johnson on his part also assured the full support of his government to the IGAD's Revitalization Process to bring lasting peace in the world's youngest nation, it was noted.
