CARACAS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan Vice-President Tareck El Aissami hinted on Wednesday President Nicolas Maduro would seek re-election in the 2018 presidential election.

Speaking at an event in the northern state of Aragua, El Aissami said "we will win the great majority of mayoral seats" in the upcoming Dec. 10 local elections and "we have the National Constituent Assembly (ANC)."

"And we will have ... the re-election of our brother Nicolas Maduro as president of the republic," he said. "In 2018, we will see a great revolutionary victory despite the violence and financial persecution."

He mentioned the election of the ANC on July 30, saying that by winning the victory of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela in regional elections on Oct. 15, "we guaranteed peace in the hands of governors."

The opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable has accused the government of causing the country's deep economic recession and the lack of essential food and drugs.

The two sides are set to hold discussions in the Dominican Republic in early December.
