U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer visits Ukraine's Black Sea port

KIEV, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. guided-missile destroyer USS James E. Williams DDG-95 on Wednesday docked at the Ukrainian southern Black Sea port of Odessa, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian Navy Command attaches a great importance to the visit of the American ship and considers it a continuation of support from the U.S. Navy," said a statement on the ministry website.

The Ukrainian authorities did not disclose the purpose of the visit, but local media said it is aimed at boosting interaction between the navies of the two countries and demonstrating the U.S. support for Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Navy, ships of the U.S. Navy and its partners have visited Odessa 10 times this year.

The USS James E. Williams vessel is expected to stay in Odessa port till Dec. 2.
