African youths have their say on AU-EU Summit

ABIDJAN, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The fifth African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit takes place on Nov. 29-30 in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, under the theme of "investing in youth for a sustainable future".

Prior to the summit, Xinhua talks to some African youths and ask them of their opinions on the summit.

Amanda Gielen, from Cote d'Ivoire, currently pursues a masteral degree in advertising in Belgium. She says people should look at Europe and Africa in an equal way and people from these two regions should share experiences and learn from each other. However, she still looks forward to more experience sharing from European companies with African youths so as to boost Africa's development. She says that after graduation, she will return to Africa to put into use what she has learned in Europe and set up a company. (Xinhua/Lyu Shuai)

Rodrigue Fanta from Cote d'Voire, 24 years old, is pursing studies in economics at Cote d'Voire's National School of Statistics and Economics. "I hope the pan-African body, the African Union, will encourage African youth to stay in the African continent for drive the continent's development, rather than travel overseas to pursue self-development." she says. Chadjeu Nanaloic Berenger from Cameroon, 24 years old, is pursuing studies in maths at Cote d'Voire's National School of Statistics and Economics. "African countries, despite their plentiful natural resources, lag behind in development levels compared to other regions. I hope the exchange with the EU will bring more advanced technologies and ideas to Africa, which will accelerate Africa's industrialization and nurture entrepreneurship among African youth." he says. Djouogo Tadie Marlene from Cameroon, 24 years old, is also pursuing studies in maths at Cote d'Voire's National School of Statistics and Economics. She says regional peace and security is one of the most important development goals raised by the African Union. She hopes the AU-EU summit could help Africa achieve these goals, grasp development opportunities, and enhance Africa's competitiveness. (Xinhua/Lyu Shuai)
