KABUL, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 Afghan civilians were injured after a suicide bombing ripped through Pul-e-Alam, capital of eastern province of Logar on Tuesday, a local official said.

"The blast occurred at around 11:10 a.m. (local time) along a road in central neighborhood of the city. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals by ambulances and police vehicles," the official told Xinhua anonymously.

Initial information found that the nature of the blast was a suicide bombing, targeting a local security official, the source said, adding that more details would be made public later as investigation was underway to find more facts about the incident.

Unofficial sources told local media that the bomber attacked Mohammad Ayoub, deputy provincial police chief, but he was unhurt as he was sitting in a bomb proof vehicle.

Government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene for fears that there might be a second blast.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
