BRUSSELS, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Around 100 arrests were made on Saturday afternoon following new riot in Brussels that have caused damages, according to Belgian interior minister Jan Jambon.
The riot started at around 4:00 p.m. local time after a group of people began to disturb a peaceful protest against human trafficking in Libya in Brussels' Louise district. Some shops as well as a police vehicle were seriously damaged.
The federal police authorities had to be called for reinforcement in order to help the local police cope with the situation.
Local media La Derniere Heure also said several people were hurt, and a woman was brought to hospital.
Jan Jambon called for "tolerance zero" towards the rioters whose acts were named as "unacceptable", reminding that investigation would follow and that the images captured on security cameras would be analyzed to proceed to more arrests.
Brussels mayor Philippe Close condemned the incident, and declared at 7:00 p.m. that the situation was "under control" though police authorities remain on the scene. One hour later, the situation was reportedly back to normal.
This is the third similar incident since November in the Belgian capital following riots on Nov. 11 and 15, which also led to several arrests.
