MADRID, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona confirmed on Saturday that Leo Messi has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until the end of June 2021.
The 30-year-old has agreed a recession clause of 700 million euros on his contract, although the fact that Messi has decided to agree a new deal means he has no intention of moving anywhere.
The new contract ends months of doubts over the future of the striker, who on Friday received the 'Golden Boot' award and whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of June 2018.
Messi's new contract had been Barcelona's number one priority for several months and Saturday's news means that Barca fans, who have seen him score 528 goals in 602 games to date, will have the chance to enjoy him for three more years, by which time he will have spent 17 seasons in the Barcelona first team squad.
